Dye Penetrant Testing (PT)

Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) has a wide variety of applications and is used to detect defects that are open to the surface of the part being tested. It involves the application of a colored or fluorescent dye to the surface of the part which is then allowed a dwell time.  The dye is then carefully removed allowing the dye to remain anywhere it has penetrated the surface of the part by means of capillary action.  The surface of the part is then developed with a high contrast dry powder to allow the dye to resurface thus visibly highlighting any defects.

We strive to be absolutely certain that the materials and products we test for our clients are safe, quality, and fit for purpose.

Liquid Penetrant Testing is used to detect casting, forging and welding defects such as cracks, porosity, seams, fatigue cracks and lack of fusion (surface breaking).

Unlike MT, this inspection may be performed on ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
