Magnetic Particle Inspection (MT) is used to detect surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferrous materials.

Magnetic Particle Testing is reliable, fast and relatively easy making it one of the most widely utilized non-destructive testing methods.
MT uses a generated magnetic field in the part and the application of tiny colored or fluorescent iron particles to detect flaws in the component.

The limitations of this method are that the component being inspected must be made of a ferromagnetic material such as iron, nickel, cobalt, or some of their alloys. Ferromagnetic materials are materials that can be sufficiently magnetized such as castings, forgings, and welds.
